For me, the imago zero represents a space in which we are under no influence. We are aware of everything and do nothing. Everything is possible. To be back at our own zero imago, it’s a way to visit our emotions and discover how we perceive, build our reality.
Understanding the concept: Imago
The imago represents the prototype of characters who will unconsciously influence the relationship of an individual to others, it would be based on his first interpersonal relationships. The individual thus shaped becomes a representation of himself.
By understanding little by little what is the part of himself, his essence and the contribution of his models and beliefs, the individual can decide to Be and choose his posture in a conscious way. Little by little, the individual gets rid of his beliefs and fears that have become useless to take charge and take his flight. Free.
Imago is the representation of the transformation process from larva to butterfly. This process is taken up in psychoanalysis and corresponds to the different stages through which an individual passes, from childhood to wisdom.
Imago Zero, what it is ?
In the sense of psychoanalysis, Francis Pasche indicates:
“This means that the subject is not aware of the origin of the deformations up to the point of inversion, and of the amplification he inflicts on reality by projecting this image onto it. But, starting from there, two possibilities may occur:
- the subject will also be unconscious of the representation he has of the reality thus modified and, only, “his feelings and his behavior” will manifest it;
- or he will be aware of this idealized representation (positively or negatively), but he will take it for a perception, for the index of a reality. “
For me, the imago zero represents a space in which we are under no influence. We are aware of everything and do nothing. Everything is possible. Going back to this imago zero is a way to visit our emotions and discover how from this original space we interact with the world, we perceive reality and become aware of the impact of our actions, of others, of our environment on our daily life.
Identify your imago zero
We have, from an early age, built this image according to others. The zero imago is the reflection of this dual construction. It is I with my perception of the gaze of others placed on me. It is my way of behaving in relation to the rules and values that constitute my environment. It is the image that I have of Myself through what I think I should Be … My behavior and my reality are built little by little on this zero base.
I will adapt my behavior according to what I think is right or expected in the given situation. I can also be in opposition to what I perceive of this expectation. Then I will design my reality in relation to these perceptions. These perceptions will tint my mood, my confidence, my balance … sometimes to the point of losing me.
To become aware of one’s imago zero is to identify shadow and light in one’s perceptions. It is becoming aware of your personal patterns of representation of reality. It is finally to choose in conscience which reality we wish to live on a daily basis.
Shadow and light exercise
Identify in your perceptions how you see your reality. Test the exercise suggested by the video by choosing a situation in your context.
Thank you to Sandrine Tabard who, in her supervision, was able to skillfully reveal this shadow and light to me. The video, support for this exercise, is inspired by it. My reality and me.
The video How to identify our Imago Zero, is only available in French.
Getting started
Becoming aware of the way in which our reality is constructed allows us to set our Mago in motion. The Mago is our personal Magician. it is in a way our essence, our inner self. Built on the basis of the duality between shadow and light, between Mago and Ego, our personality very often seeks its realization outside of itself.
The search for self
By turning our quest for ourselves inside of us, by projecting the light on our shadow, our Mago falls into place. He is our haven of peace, our personal power, the source of our movements. To reconnect with oneself, to identify one’s Mago, is in a way to take off. It is the affirmation of his ultimate, unified image, reconciling shadow and light, at peace with oneself … and with others.
Train yourself
Me and the other me
The accomplishment of yourself
Express your Mago and focus on yourself
To center oneself is to empty one’s perceptions, it is to return inside oneself and find peace. It is simply Being.
To center, we must thwart our Ego and come back to its center. From this center, all the most thankless tasks seem simpler, faster to perform. The Mago, our confidence in ourselves regained, our faith can be expressed and the setting in motion is put in place.
The simple fact of Being in motion is a choice of Being in the present moment. Our steps gain confidence and our Mago puts itself forward … Try it.
Multimedia content to support you
To support you, we have set up a free program to facilitate this return to oneself: Zen walk. These are podcasts of less than 10 minutes to train you a little more each day to reconnect with your center, your Mago.
Train yourself. Then emancipate yourself by creating alone your moments of connection to you outside of all thoughts. Bring your head, heart and body together in one place. Some will call it “meditation“.
Personally I call it return to oneself, because the primary objective is to detach oneself from any mental visualization and to enter into one’s inner silence. This dialogue with oneself, at its center, is restorative. You just have to practice being silent within yourself to establish your unity.
Get into the habit of doing these feedbacks on your own every day to gradually build your autonomy.
The “Walks” are recorded with ambient noises, and sometimes include certain hesitations of language. Take this as an additional workout to detach yourself and simply live the experience.
